illegitimate lovechild

Well well well.

I recently finished Susanna Clarke's Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell and loved it. I actually didn't really love the story (or plot), not that it was terrible, but the sequence of events seemed very minuscule in comparison to the scope of the world they took place in. That was the part I loved: she invented such a detailed and amazing history, and the best part about reading the story was learning more and more about the past. Strange himself was pretty sweet too.

I also recently rented Twin Peaks from the library. Today I saw the episode where the killer was revealed, and I don't know if I'm going to continue after this. What is being set up for the rest of the season (and series I guess) seems rather convoluted. I have to say, Veronica Mars did a lot better with the murder mystery. Also it contained none of the supernatural elements that felt almost tacked on, despite being central to the plot. Veronica had a much more satisfying conclusion to both of its big mysteries, and better lead ins. Anyway, point being, watch Veronica. That's not really the point but it's true regardless.

Edit: I should admit that I already read the Wikipedia entry for the rest of the series and that may have influenced my decision to continue or not, but I like to think it a valid influence.

Well, I guess I'll try and keep you up to date on what as become a log of my literary and cinematic adventures. Until next time.
